When the rug was literally pulled from under me it made me reconsider my whole life picture. All I valued was destabilised, I was overwhelmed with grief but I knew I needed to forge ahead with purpose. I sought counselling with good effect but I recognised that I wanted to make changes, take back control and shape a new life.
After over 30 years in the NHS, firstly as a nurse and then in development roles, I wanted to combine my passion for caring and my coaching experience to support others following loss.
Through my own experiences I understand what it is to undergo major losses and life events that rock you to the core. I have been divorced, raised four children, was made redundant in 2018 and suffered the loss of both my parents within two months in 2021.
I have sought out my own coach to help refocus my life and make practical future plans. I see the huge benefits of having an independent sounding board and safe space to navigate my new world. I have started the journey to transform my life and now I want to support others to join me on this path.
I bring warmth, calmness and a real appreciation for living life to the fullest, knowing it can change in the blink of an eye.
I have three other adult children who share my passion for Yorkshire tea, a good book and adopting rescue animals! I’m a volunteer mentor for The Prince’s Trust and, with my children, support mental health charities for young people, in memory of Samuel.
I'm also working with the NHS and government bodies to bring about change in mental health services for under 18s – bringing the parental voice to this work is my mission.
Hi, my name is Suzanne. A warm welcome to Coaching After Loss, which I established after losing my 17-year-old son Samuel to suicide in 2020.
What is coaching?
Coaching is a two-way relationship, using conversations, tools and techniques to focus on your personal goals.
I will help you move from where you find yourself now to the place where you want to be.
Coaching creates a safe space for you to work through your challenges, explore options and find your own solutions, from a place of empathy and support.
Coaching will enable you to gain clarity and see new possibilities. You will recognise what is important to you and develop realistic goals, priorities and plans at your own pace.
Why coaching after loss?
I know, through my lived experience, that loss has a huge impact on your mental and physical health, including a loss of confidence, identity and self-esteem.
Concentration and memory can be diminished, alongside sleep, leading to sheer exhaustion. Decision-making becomes near on impossible, as life feels overwhelming and fear and a lack of control dominates.
Coaching provides the opportunity to take back that control, bringing a future focus to help you move ahead with purpose and meaning.
I will be your greatest champion and take you from surviving to thriving.
Together we can achieve:
-
Improved clarity of your thinking
-
Regained control of your life
-
Fresh ways of thinking
-
Direction for your future
-
Newfound meaning and purpose
-
Restored confidence, identity and self-esteem
-

We will grieve our losses for a lifetime but we can decide to have a future, bring our loved ones with us and literally have hope in our hearts.
